Leonard Smith

OGDEN - Leonard Smith, 65, of Ogden passed away at 12:41 a.m. Thursday March 19, 2009, at Provena Covenant Medical Center Urbana.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday March 23, 2009, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, with Michael Gutterridge officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Champaign, the son of Leonard G. Smith and Betty Brazelton. He married Sue Hawk on March 26, 1973, in Urbana. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother of Urbana; two sons, Mike McLeod of Sidney and T.J. Smith of Ogden; five grandchildren; and one half brother, Lynn Smith of Eldon, Mo. He was preceded by his father and stepfather.

Mr. Smith was retired from Teamsters Local 26. He had worked for 25 years at University Asphalt, and had worked at Osterbur Trucking Royal. He enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a member of the Middlefork Valley Hog Chapter at Danville. He enjoyed watching his granddaughters play ball, and having coffee with the guys. He was a former member of the Army National Guard.
